How about the same crew of guys that wanted to do a mural in Mt. Washington and were "community meeting-ed" to death? I think Tony Villaraigosa Jr. and his friends have both the skills and the community understanding to do something meaningful and beautiful here.

I am hoping my son enters this. You should let the area schools know this because I don't think many students read patch.

Thanks for the comment, Creper. Please let your son know about the contest, and I'll be reaching out to local schools!

Thanks, Hector! We're just starting to get the word out. If you know any artist please forward this to them. I appreciate your helping in sharing this opportunity!

Yes! Thanks, Creper! Tell your son and please share this with him and his friends. We could use a hand getting the word out about this cool opportunity. Forward the link to any East side artists you know! http://highlandpark-ca.patch.com//blog_posts/blog-artist-wanted-for-marmion-way-mural-design-contest#comment_5812037

It says in the article graciously funded by Ed Reyes and CD 1. Will the winning artist be compensated for their design and if so, how much?

This is a fantastic project! Kudos to Peter, CD1 and Ave 50 Studio! Bring on the submissions!

They use the pretense of a contest to steal ideas.... and not pay an artis to lead the project iam tire of this kind of thivery coming from the city of los angeles atleast let the artist that design it paint it and be the one who gets some compensatiio for his time....no wonder we as artist are still starving...
David Fonseca (Editor) December 19, 2012 at 07:56 PM
EL Sen, this project is being organized *by* artists from our community. Check out Avenue 50 Studio's website, or go talk to gallery director Kathy Gallegos. Perhaps you would not be so quick to accuse a longtime supporter of local artists of "thievery."

I don't think i singled out any one.... but i would love to know the artist involved in this project... .

How much is the winning prize? Is Ed Reyes pulling money out of his own pocket? How much is CD1 paying out?
ChickenBoyFan December 20, 2012 at 01:42 AM
I love all of the interest in this area. There is commitment there, on the part of Peter and Ave 50. It does us all proud.
Peter Bedard December 22, 2012 at 03:02 PM
Pola Lopez is the artist who will be painting the mural once the winning design is selected.

@ChickenBoyFan - thanks for your support! If you know the "tape muralist" or a way to reach out to him please do! In fact, please share this with everyone in the NorthEast and especially Highland Park. We highly encourage younger people and HP locals to submit.

AND...for those who are interested, I'm personally offering $200 of my own money to the artist with the winning design as a Thank You!
