Dodger 'Dream Field' Dedicated in Highland Park Saturday

The new "Dream Field" includes vibrant Dodger blue scoreboards.

Two renovated baseball fields were dedicated Saturday at the Highland Park Recreation Center, thanks to a combination of government and private funding.

In addition to the solar-powered, Dodger blue scoreboard, the so-called 'Dream Field' came with a slew of renovations. New fencing, backstops, dugout roofs and bases were all installed. The infield surface, outfield turf and irrigation system were rennovated, as well.

Funding for the renovations was provided by the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, the LA84 Foundation--which manages Southern California's share of
the surplus from the 1984 Summer Olympics--and the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks.

The fields are the 27th and 28th to be renovated or built in the Los
Angeles area under the Dodgers Dreamfields program, which began in 2003, when the team was owned by the News Corp. The program continued under the McCourt ownership team, and these two are the second and third completed under the team's current ownership.

Dodger coach Manny Mota and former Dodgers Tommy Davis, Lou Johnson,
Derrel Thomas and Bobby Castillo conducted a clinic for players in the Youth
Baseball and Softball League on the field following today's dedication
ceremony.

"The fundamentals that come with the game of baseball are critical
components that lead to the success of our youth on and off the field," said
Renata Simril, the Dodgers senior vice president of external affairs. "Dodgers Dreamfields, such as the one here in Highland Park and the many more throughout the Los Angeles region, allow us to utilize baseball as a means to instill important life lessons in our youth while at the same time contribute to the positive development of our communities."
