Reminder: Community Liaison Council to Discuss 710 in Highland Park Tonight

As Metro prepares to narrow down its list of proposed SR-710 extension routes, NELA residents are invited to learn more about the proposals on Monday night.

Metro will on Monday evening host a Community Liaison Council (CLC) meeting to discuss numerous potential extensions of State Route 710, several of which would be built through Highland Park.

The CLC meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday evening at Ramona Hall (4580 N. Figueroa St.).

CLCs are comprised of diverse stakeholders including residents, business owners, and members of community organizations, institutions, and interest groups within the Study Area."

Charles Miller, a Garvanza resident who opposes the SR-710 extension, said opponents will use the meeting to organize their campaign.

I oppose the 710. it's not going to do us any good. It's not designed for local traffic. No additional commerce. It's simply a device to try and facilitate more diesel trucks through the center of LA. Trucks that wont be stopping here. In fact they will give us something...They'll be dropping off pollution from the exhaust vents of the proposed tunnel. Wow, thanks Ports! Neighborhoods divided/ruined. Immanent domain with settlements for close to pennies on the dollar once word gets out. (as quoted from last Thursdays meeting from a lawyer ho does immanent domain)

Stop 710 from going through Highland Park... Isn't the natural route through South Pasadena?! Why are they rerouting this to HLP?

Why? the least resistant community, low socio-economic, least power etc... Write and email your local, city, state and national political leaders and remind them of David and Goliath!!!

Not one of the 13 members of the Community Liaison Council even showed up at the meeting tonight... Or at least they did not stand up, speak up or raise their hand to identify themselves to the community when requested at least twice, maybe three times, during the course of the meeting. Furthermore, the presentation itself was pathetic. What a farce!!

It was a packed house!!! Standing room only!!! But, I am confident HP can do a better job and represent at future meetings!!! We need HP residents to support their fellow neighbors who will be directly or indirectly impacted by the 710 Extension toll expressway above ground, or tunneled, or semi-above ground proposed routes. And, the entire NE will be recipients of the exhaust fumes from the mega trucks routed through our communities!!!

I find it interesting that it seems nobody has considered that long tunnels and freight hauling trucks can make for a disastrous combination.

e.g.: look up the Mont Blanc, Caldecott, Summit and Howard Street Tunnel fires.
