HHPNC Elects 2 At-Large Directors

An attorney and an investment management executive bring their talents to the neighborhood council.

The Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council elected two so-called At-Large Directors at its monthly board meeting Thursday night, effectively filling in two vacancies on the board and raising to 13 the total number of At-Large Directors seats occupied.

The HHPNC board cast 11 votes to elect the two candidates—Johanna Sanchez and Fernando Villa, who were present at the meeting along wih two other Highland Park residents who had also applied for the positions but were not elected.

Board members encouraged the other two candidates—An Do and Liz Amsden—to remain interested in what the HHPNC does and be active members of the community. Do works for Wells Fargo and Amsden in films.

Wednesday was the deadline for applying for the At-Large Director vacancies. All four candidates gave brief presentations about their professional backgrounds and involvement in community affairs. In replies to a question by HHPNC President Monica Alcaraz if there were any committees they would like to serve on, all four candidates said they'd be available to volunteer their time on committees as the board deemed fit.

"You are all so talented," remarked At-Large Director Randy Carrillo, adding jokingly: "Can we have all four you?"

Sanchez is an attorney and Villa works for an investment management firm. The duo will be seated on the HHPNC board at the next meeting on Sept. 5.
