Autry Not on Tuesday's Arts, Parks Agenda

The committee with jurisdiction over the Autry National Center's Expansion will meet on Tuesday, but Autry is not on the agenda.

The Los Angeles City Council's Arts, Parks, Health and Aging Committee will meet on Tuesday morning, but their agenda does not call for a discussion about the Autry National Center's of their Griffith Park museum space.

The city council over the Autry's proposed $6.6 million renovation and expansion in late May after opponents of the plan complained they were of the May 21 meeting of the recreation and parks commission meeting during which the proposal was initially approved.

Section 245 of the Los Angeles City Charter requires that council take action on any issue over which it claims jurisdiction within 21 days. Since the city council claimed the Autry issue on Tuesday, May 31, they have until Tuesday, June 21 to take action, lest the issued be dropped.

At stake for the Autry is $6.9 million that the Autry received from California’s Prop. 84 Nature Education Facilities (NEF) Program.

Daniel Finely, CEO of the Autry, said that the Autry needs to have a contract in place with a contractor to complete the expansion and renovation project by July 1 or risk losing that funding.

Monica Valencia, a press deputy for Councilman and arts, parks, health and aging committee member Ed Reyes (CD4), said was following the issue closely, but had yet to be informed of when the Autry issue would be taken up again.

"It hasn't been officially agendized yet," she said.

Though not action is scheduled on the  Autry expansion plan for Tuesday's meeting, those interested in the issue can still voice their opinions during the committees public comment session.

The meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, June 14 in Room 1010 of the Los Angeles City Hall on 200 N. Spring St. at 8:30 a.m.
