Assembly Candidates Ready to Run-Off

Both candidates told their supporters they are ready for the second leg of the race for the Assembly District.

After securing the top two spots in Tuesday's primary election for the 51st Assembly District, Candidates Luis Lopez and Jimmy Gomez are now rallying voters to continue supporting them in November.

In a message to his voters on campaign website, Gomez said that the campaign's "work is not done."

"I am honored by the tremendous support I received throughout this campaign. I want to thank all of the voters who went to the polls and showed their confidence in me,” Gomez said. “Yesterday’s outcome shows there is a place on the ballot for someone with my humble beginnings and experience, but our work is not done. I look forward to my continued conversations with voters as we move toward the November general election.”

"To get a new direction in Sacramento, we need to change the kind of leader we send there as our advocate," Lopez said. "Thanks to the voters, to our 1,200 individual donors, and to our hundreds of volunteers, our campaign is showing the power of community-driven leadership and providing our district exactly that opportunity."

The election for the 51st Assembly District, which contains Highland Park, Mount Washington, Eagle Rock and Echo Park, will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 6.
