Marmion Way Burning Victim Identified as Male

LAPD officials are still waiting to release the name of the victim, pending notification of relatives.

A man who apparently had been shot was found early Thursday morning in a burning SUV on Marmion Way, police said.

The grisly discovery was made just before 2 a.m. by firefighters who extinguished the fire in the 4800 block of Marmion Way, according to Sgt. Wayne Guillary of the Los Angeles Police Department's Northeast Station.

The body was found in the driver's seat, and the victim apparently had been shot, LAPD spokesman Richard French said.

Authorities withheld his name, pending notification of his relatives. About 20 minutes before the fire was reported, gunshots had been heard in the general area, but it was unclear if they were related to the death, French said.

No arrests were reported.

LAPD Detective Jose Carrillo told ABC7 that removing the body was made difficult because of its position inside the SUV and because of the extensive fire damage to the vehicle. "All we know is that we believe it is definitely a male,'' Carrillo said. "Nationality, race, or age is unknown.''

Channel 7 reported that the vehicle was registered to a person who lived in the area. Anyone with information on the crime was urged to call (877) LAPD-247.

Someone said they heard about 1/2 a dz gunshots...poor guy...hate to speculate, but from what I've read & the neighborhood scuttlebutt concerning this mystery, I'd say it's probably going to turn out having to do with drugs. Either that, or something involving money, and/or Love Trangle. Suppose the poor unfortunate victem was just reclining in his seat, & was accousted by an someone on foot? Not likely, because of the fire. Seems premeditated. Maybe even a paid hit. I ride my bike through there regularly, & always notice people parked, day & night. Most reading, smoking, sleeping...some meet up with another car that either pulls in behind them, or parks in front of them. Strange, people heard shots, but no one has reported any sound of foot steps running away from the scene, car door slamming, or even the sound of a car starting up and driving away. It makes me think the victem knew his killer & that the killer escaped on foot...to a bus, or waiting car nearby? Only two ways for the killer to escape, either E., towards 50, or W., to the Gold Line. Provided he/she isn't from Mt. Wash. I think police will crack this case fairly quickly. What a horrible way to go. God bless him & Peace for his loved ones.
