A man was hospitalized today with gunshot wounds after being struck by bullet fragments that were the remnants of New Year's celebratory gunfire.
The unidentified 30-year-old man was struck on the left side of his face soon after midnight as he stood in the front yard of a residence on the 6800 block of North Figueroa Street, said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Wayne Guillary.
Gullary said X-rays revealed bullet fragments lodged inside the man's scalp.
"It seems likely that was from celebratory gunfire that was falling out of the sky," Guillary said.
Guillary said the man was expected to be released from the hospital later today.

Some people are so stoopid. Thanks NRA.
Allen Burnett January 01, 2014 at 07:45 PM
Doobie, the sorts of folks who join the NRA are not quite the same sorts of folks who shoot guns in the air for fun. Why don't you try blaming the types of individuals who violate laws, like shooting guns in the air around neighborhoods, instead of a group focused on safety?

NRA you say , I thought the NRA mentality were run out of California a long time ago!
James Clark January 01, 2014 at 09:27 PM
The NRA folks are the people perpetrating these unlawful acts against citizens and should spanked?? for their transgressions.
Michael Smith January 01, 2014 at 11:28 PM
An NRA member wouldn't even associate with somene they thought MIGHT do something like this.
Michael Smith January 01, 2014 at 11:29 PM
And they would immediately report to the authorities anyone who did.

Nobody in the NRA would have done this. In fact the person who fired these shots into the air was most likely a drunk/high gang member.

its sad that there are still people stupid enough to overlook the fact that "what goes up must come down"!!! shooting guns up in the air should be considered attempted murder, no different than shooting into a crowd of people. although i doubt that the shooter will ever be caught, i hope justice will be served!!! and by the way; what the hell does the NRA have to do with this?!?!? this is a simple case of someone using horrible judgement and being stupid!! as far as i know the NRA is not responsible nor does it condone stupid drunk new years behavior. i guess people just have the need to blame someone or some group. whatever!!! i hope the kid is o.k!!

I agree! Its the NRA's fault!!!! >=O I mean, we can't hold ourselves accountable!?! ....I hope the idiot who shot his gun finds out what he did and lives with the guilt that it could have been someone close and dear to him. Hoping for a fast recovery for the injured...

Everyone knows that when the clock rings in the new years, stay indoors!!! Your asking for it when you hear all the gun shots and you decide to go out for a walk. He should've been more intelligent. Just food for thought...
