Fire Extinguished in 3-Story Highland Park Apartment Building

The blaze spread from a balcony to a first-floor apartment.

By City News Service

Los Angeles Fire Department crews on Friday night made fast work of a fire in a first-floor unit of a three-story apartment building in Highland Park that sent one man to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The blaze at 327 S. Avenue 60 was reported at 5:28 p.m. and was knocked down in 13 minutes, said Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire started on a balcony and spread into the apartment, but 39 firefighters kept the flames from reaching additional units, Scott said.

An approximately 40-year-old man who attempted to extinguish the fire suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to a hospital for treatment, Scott said, adding that the victim's condition was not available.

Firefighters vented smoke from two apartments above the burned unit, he said.
