Crime Blotter: Jewelry Heist, Gang Crime Update

Violent crime appears to be on the decline in Highland Park, and police are investigating a jewelry heist that took place on Monday.

Detectives in the Los Angeles Police Department Northeast Division's Gang Enforcement Unit are hoping that Highland Park's recent downturn in violent crime continues.

"We've really quiet compared to historically around here," Detective Larry Burcher told Highland Park-Mount Washington Patch. "Hopefully its not the quiet before the storm."

It was just last March that Monte Vista street was struck by a rash of violent crimes. According to Crimemapping, 10 incidents of assault with a deadly weapon were reported between North Figueroa Street and Monte Vista Street between March 15 and April 26--the day of the arrest.
