Meet the Brown Sisters: Community Committed Musicians

The Brown sisters are members of the L.A. Inner City Youth Orchestra and recently helped raise funds to take their Girl Scout Troupe 353 across the pond.

Whiz Kids: Ixchel Brown, 17, Kenya Brown, 15, Erin Brown, 13

Whiz Kids' School:  All three of the Brown sisters are enrolled at the Renaissance Arts Academy in Eagle Rock. They live in Highland Park.

Whiz Kids’ Accomplishment: Recently helped raise $35,000 for their Girl Scout Troupe 353 (San Gabriel) to travel to London for the 100th Anniversary of Girl Guiding with car washes and cookie sales.  The Brown sisters are the only Highland Park members of Troupe 353.  Ixchel recently earned her Gold badge by taking inner city youth who’d never been camping up for a weekend adventure in the local San Gabriel Mountains. The three Brown sisters also are all members of the Los Angeles Inner City Youth Orchestra, which is practicing for concerts now at Disney Hall and other venues around the city. The girls also practice regularly in various quartets on their own and you’ll be seeing them perform at the local Old L.A. Farmers’ Market (and other markets) very soon.

Whiz Kid's Goal: “Explore new places and take part in adventures that allow us to meet new people and also share what we have done and what we enjoy with those who may not be exposed to nature, music and other things.”

Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness:  The Brown sisters have all been playing strings for several years as part of the RenArts’ student learning objectives.  However, they are motivated to share their music with the public in other ways, and working with the L.A. Inner City Youth Orchestra and performing gratis out at local area Farmers’ Markets are just the beginning. “We get a lot of enjoyment out of playing for others, and with the Girl Scouts we have been given many opportunities to meet people we wouldn’t normally meet and get involved in our community in ways we normally couldn’t.”
