Rescuer Running Out of Funds For Surgery of Lost, Injured Dog

$1,300 has already been spent on saving Buster—and his rescuer is running out of funds to take further care of the unfortunate pooch.

A dog without any collar, tags or a microchip who was hit by a car nearly three weeks ago may need surgery to get his front right leg amputated—but the Good Samaritan who rescued the pooch and has already spent $1,300 on its treatment does not have the funds for the operation.

“Unfortunately, after all the x-rays, and vet visits, it looks like he will need surgery to amputate his front right leg,” said Leslie Brown, whose son Keenan found the injured dog on Piedmont Avenue, near the Highland Park Recreation Center. “If we don't find the owners, we will probably look for someone to adopt him, as we can't really afford the care for another pet—nor the surgery.”

The mother and son have posted flyers about the lost and injured dog—they have named him Buster—but have gotten no response yet. They can be reached at (323) 929-3103.

Attached is a photo of Buster taken on the day he was found. The yellow tape on his left leg is to cover the intravenous drip that vets used to give him fluids. The front right leg that may need surgery is tucked under him.

“It has no mobility below the elbow,” Leslie told Highland Park-Mount Washington Patch, adding: “He's about 15-20 pounds, I think—the size of a big cat.”
