Highland Park 'Departures' Series Launches Today

The documentary series, five months in the making, was released to the world on Monday.

Highland Park is ready for its closeup.

After months of research, KCET on Monday unveiled their first in a series of video interviews with local luminaries about the Arroyo's past, present and future.

As previously reported on Patch, KCET's Highland Park doc is set to be the latest in a series that has featured historic communities throughout Los Angeles, including Chinatown, Richland Farms and Venice. The Los Angeles River has also gotten the Departures treatment from KCET.

The first installment focuses on Highland Park and Mount Washington's history, with Arroyo arts godfather getting his fair share of the spotlight. Among those interviewed are Organizer Elliot Sekuler, Friends of the Southwest Museum Coaltion member Nicole Possert and Lummis descendant Suzanne Lummis.

Future segments, which will be released every Monday for the next six weeks, will cover, among other topics, "Arroyo Culture," "The Parkway" and "The Rise of the Inner City."
