Urban Cycling Expedition to Explore Highland Park

The ride will educate locals about their neighborhood and how to safely ride through it.

C.I.C.L.E (Cylists Inciting Change through Local Exchange) will lead an urban expedition through Highland Park on Saturday, June 18 aimed at educating riders about the neighborhood and the safest ways to cycle through it.

The ride begins at 1001 Arroyo Verde Road in South Pasadena, at the entrance of the Arroyo Seco Bike Path near the horse stables between South Pasadena and Highland Park, and will make stops at the and .

The seven-mile ride is open to riders of all skill levels, said C.I.C.L.E. director Dan Dabek.

Novice riders will also learn urban cycling tips such as the proper use of hand signals and rider etiquette, he said. 

"Our goal is to educate people and to get them out on a bicycle," Dabek said. "We want to get people comfortable riding in an urban environment."

The other goal of the trip, Dabek said, is to expose locals to areas in the neighborhood that they would drive past without noticing  in a car.

"Los Angeles is such an amazing place and bicyclists can really engage with their community," he said. "It's something you really miss in a car."

C.I.C.L.E.'s Highland Park Urban Expedition is scheduled for Saturday, June 18 at 1 p.m. beginning at 1001 Arroyo Verde Rd. in South Pasadena.
