Santa Ana Winds Likely Monday Night

A brief period of Red Flag Warning may be necessary in Los Angeles County on Tuesday, as Santa Ana winds are likely to set up Monday night through Wednesday, the National Weather Service said Sunday.

A Santa Ana wind pattern will develop Monday night, as a high-pressure system is forming over Nevada and Utah, forecasters said. That will push surface winds through inland and coastal mountains to the sea.

Hot and dry wind gusts of 40-50 miles per hour may arrive in the coastal mountains of Los Angeles and Ventura counties Monday night, the NWS said. The winds will descend into the coastal plain and valleys by Tuesday morning, according to the latest forecast models.

The low humidity and hot temperatures will elevate fire dangers through Wednesday. The peak 50-mph winds will be common in the Santa Monica Mountains and inland mountains and passes, and may trigger Red Flag Warnings for part of Tuesday, the NWS said.

Winds will diminish Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday, according to the forecast.
