Fig-Pro and Plant Food for People to Host Vegan Barbecue

Highland Park Figueroa Produce and Plant for For People are teaming up for the meatless food fest.

After two successful runs of serving her vegan tacos during , Highland Park's Plant for People will on Saturday, July 30 team up with for an all vegan barbecue.

The veggie food fest is scheduled to take place from noon until 5 p.m. on the 30th at Fig-Pro's 6312 N. Figueroa St. location.

Genise Castaneda, chef and co-owner of Plant Food for People, said that she has already been supplying her vegan tacos and tamales to Fig-Pro for a few months.

"We already have a relationship in place," Castaneda said. "They're like us in that they're really trying to promote Veganism in the market."

Castaneda said she will be serving up the vegan jackfruit carnitas tacos that were such a hit during Plant Food for People's Highland Park debut in June, while Fig-Pro will be be dishing out Match Meat burgers, chicken and crab cakes.

Castaneda has been building up a strong culinary reputation through her appearances on gallery night and , and she said she's still committed to launching Los Angeles' first vegan drive through restaurant on York Boulevard.

"It's coming together," Castaneda said of the 4933 York Blvd. location she hopes to convert into a vegan fast-food eatery. "The building still needs a lot of work, but we're hoping for a first of year opening. Around January 1."
