ReplyHere's what happened, according to CD1 Spokesperson Monica Valencia.
There were three proposed motions, one by Huizar, one by Reyes and one by LaBonge. LaBonge's and Reyes' were "received and filed" because they could not be enforced, by law, due to Brown Act conflicts or jurisdictional issues, respectively. The motion that was passed was actually moved by Reyes, and it is a revised version of Huizar's motion (it also folds in some of the language from LaBonge's).
"It pretty much captures the essence of the motion, but with language that can be enforced, bringing everybody back to a working group, establishing agreed upon goals," Valencia said.

ReplyUpdate--the approved motion reads as follows: "I MOVE that the motion (Item #1 on the 5/15/12 Agenda) be AMENDED to instruct the Chief Legislative Analyst, the Chief Administrative Officer, the Department of Recreation and Parks, the Cultural Affairs Department, the Los Angeles Historical Society and the Los Angeles County National History Musuem open discussions with the community and all stakeholders of the Autry Western Heritage Museum, the Southwest Museum and the adjacent Casa de Adobe with the objective of arriving at agreed upon goals for each of the respective museums. These goals include, but are not limited to, renovations, expansions and exhibitions, at the aforementioned museums."

ReplyThanks for commenting Martha. I never suggested the contingent of southwest museum supporters was small. I also did not write that the Autry was financially flush at the time of the merger, only that the Southwest Museum was facing its own financially struggles that many believed would be in part alleviated by merging with another entity. This idea has been stated by sources including Kim Walters, Nicole Possert and the Los Angeles Conservancy.

ReplyIsh, what more do you think should be done to publicize community events and meetings in the area? I agree in general about the need to bring in greater numbers, but your comment about conversations being driven by "Hipsters/newcomers/hollywood freaks" is just a broad and unfair generalization about the types of people who are taking an active role in civic life in HLP.

ReplyAs we've reported on Patch, there is a dearth of homeless services in Highland Park. With many folks living on the streets, do you think the Community Care Facilities Ordinance will help or hurt the effort to provide needed to services the area's homeless? If this ordinance provides a clear path to creating licensed sober living group homes, I think it could help. But if the restrictions are too tight, it may make providing help to those in need even more difficult.

ReplyI've submitted a request to have a directory listing created for Zosa, in the meantime, you can leave a Star rating for them in the comments section here. I'll provide a link to their page once it's alive.

I'd just like to note that I didn't block Rob Schraff from Highland Park-Mount Washington Patch. I don't anyone to think that he was banned for comments he made on this site.
