Considering the comments, it seems that this committee did not consider the needs of our neighborsRead More with disabilities. And one wonders whether the removal of the bench might put the City (parks department) at odds with their obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act. How about we add a garbage can and (gasp) a sand bucket for cigarettes?
Slade Bellum May 16, 2013 at 02:49 pm
I have a chronic back problem and often have difficulty walking my doggies. It's nice to be able toRead More sit awhile. I especially miss the hidden one which had more shade around it. we talk about the drinkers and smokers but whoever took that public bench stole and caused vandalism. That was bad. Save the bench!
Picorian May 15, 2013 at 03:56 pm
i also liked the bench there. a great area to rest and enjoy the view. I'll be a little sad to seeRead More it go away since that trail is one of the better ones in the area (I love debs park the best)

Gender Discrimination? What about criminal? Oxy personnel who handled these complaints must be heldRead More accountable for not reporting these assaults and rapes to LAPD! And, Oxy administration must be held responsible for failure to ensure everyone's safety on and off campus!!!
Monique Shoemake May 10, 2013 at 01:40 pm
I literally live a few steps away from the college and had no idea this is going on I walk throughRead More the campus alone .... not anymore . We used to get newsletters and flyers about things going on at the campus whether it be graduation , track meet , a concert etc but now nothings very interesting ....

Joseph, you are right about following the law. Someone should ticket them but most cops are busyRead More trying stop people from stealing or killing each other. The car may be defective, the driver may be defective or drunk, but lights are not the cause of the 56 ACCIDENTS. If we follow all of the laws, are generous and constantly aware of the safety and welfare of other community members and have insurance; accidents will be reduced.
Josef Bray-Ali May 3, 2013 at 04:41 am
You want to talk "danger" let's talk about the all the cars i saw tonight (and everyRead More night) driving with their lights off! What the hell is going on with these folks. They get in a 2,500 lbs. machine at 9 p.m. or 11 p.m. and their lights are off. Someone should ticket these people. 56 crashes along N. Figueroa in 2011 alone - and that is car vs. everything else. Talk about a safety risk!

This evening, Thurs, May 2, 2013, the Highland Park Council, with the interested members of theRead More community, the business community, the motorists and the bicyclists effected a compromise regarding the Bike Plan. Congratulation to all...

@Nimby: Sounds like you are backing down and rethinking a little bit. This is good. The alwaysRead More sage, Don Quixote has a way of soothing your inner savage beast. Also good. Maybe we can have the old Nimby back. I have missed the old Nimby. Now.... "Go to thee to Future Studio, and kneel before the ChickenBoy, ask for forgiveness, and do 50 "hail drumsticks". Sleep well. All is forgiven.

@agog. Would you be so kind as to offer us your opinion on bullfighting, another LatinoRead More "bloodsport" that reaffirms the superiority of gringo culture over that of the natives?
la-agog April 27, 2013 at 04:54 pm
nimby - By all means, double down and be rude. That'll show the rest of us.
Nimby pimp April 20, 2013 at 08:00 pm
RD, I prefer to greet the arrival gender and racial justice in positive terms. A celebration ofRead More progress, not vengeance.
RDST April 20, 2013 at 05:04 pm
One of the problems in the Oxy area is it is serviced by a undermanned LAPD. If you have a problemRead More the you will wait on the phone for many minutes. And the police may not arrive. A 911 call would be different; but in the Oxy area the LAPD has bigger fish to fry. If this were Pasadena, then there would be more police presence. Resources are only going to get thinner, the residents will need to beware.
RDST April 20, 2013 at 05:01 pm
...you're right, Oxy is populated by privileged children; either by money or government subsidy.Read More The population is largely white; therefore the chances are the abusers will be white; it's math. But white boys aren't the only ones acting corrupt. This country would be better served following the advice of MLK; to be judged by the content of our (good) character, not the color of the skin. NP, your comment rings of vengeance.
bobo April 20, 2013 at 03:02 pm
all of these "dangers" are because of bad drivers, not so much the fault of the street,Read More freeway, or lack of stop signs. If you drive a little slower and watch other drivers it's fine. The biggest problem I see on a daily basis is drivers not expecting pedestrians at cross walks. And also the pedestrians not watching out for cars, yes you have the right a way, but the car will hurt or kill you so you still need to make sure the car stops before just walking across Figueroa on a cross walk just because you have the right a way!

Noise is noise. The amplified sound system is noise. No noise. Let me bang some metal pans inRead More your home all day along and call it lovely. Blasts some noise you don't like and because I think it is lovely that is o.k. too. Right?
So April 16, 2013 at 08:46 pm
Okay Susanna (nonoise) it says if any person it doesn't say a church who rings it's bells everyday.Read More That is ridiculous those bells are beautiful and sound so lovely and peaceful.

What law does LAPD not enforce? California Penal Code 415.

@ dee-yacht- excuse me but in everyone of your comments all you talk about is gangbangers this andRead More gangbangers that and gangbangers come from rotten parenting. Why don't you look back at all your previous comments and read them again and then tell me that your not saying anything about it being a gangbanger ok. By the way it's not an insult. It is a simple observation and I think it's a pretty accurate observation, but that's just my opinion. Have a nice day!
MR STRICKLAND April 19, 2013 at 04:20 am
Lmfao @ dee-aych!!!
dee-aych April 17, 2013 at 12:24 pm
I never said the suspect was a gangbanger. I said gangbangers and miscreants tend to come fromRead More rotten families. Understand now? And please refrain from the insults. Have a nice day.

Tami - If you've lived in the area for 16 years and visit this park everyday, you would know thatRead More the size of these "boxes" means a chain link fence around each one is physically impossible. This has been an isolated incident and when alerted, LADWP fixed the vandalism / damage immediately. They've been extremely responsive and transparent in this situation. Don't blame LADWP for your concern. Blame the jerks that vandalized the property to begin with.
Tami March 28, 2013 at 05:10 pm
Why not put a chain link fence around these boxes? I think that would deter the thieves and protectRead More our community from any danger. Is there any possible way that LADWP can ensure the safety of the children, families that visit the parks and the animals we love? I frequent this park everyday, and now i'm not sure if I will be taking my kids or dog to that park anymore, and it's a shame. I've lived in the area for 16 years, and to be honest i'm a lil sceptic that me and my family will be protected against these kind of tragidies.
la-agog March 27, 2013 at 09:57 pm
David - Fantastic work.
la-agog March 29, 2013 at 11:25 pm
ALV G - YES AND THAT RESPONSIBLE PARTY IS THE TOOL THAT VANDALIZED THE BOX TO BEGIN WITH. MAYBE IFRead More IT WAS A KID PEOPLE WOULD BE CALLING ON LAPD TO DO A FULL INVESTIGATION. MAYBE WE SHOULD ALL JUST COUNT OUR LUCKY STARS AND CALM DOWN THOUGH.
Nimby pimp March 29, 2013 at 09:23 pm
ALV. How would the comments be different? Would some posters, be less upset?
ALV G March 29, 2013 at 08:55 pm
AFTER ALL THOSE COMMENTS . PUT A DIFFERENT SCENARIO WHAT ABOUT IF A KID RESULTED KILLED .ALL THERead More COMMENTS ABOVE WOULD BE SO DIFFERENT, ANYWAY SOME ONE HAS TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HAD HAPPENED
nonoise March 27, 2013 at 02:11 pm

Orange has always been a stand up guy. Even when we didn't agree, I can always respect him and hisRead More point of view. I would see him driving around my neighborhood himself. Always waved and always listened ...and more than anything, was proactive. Hard thing to do when the law often favors the rights of those that make the neighborhood less than desirable. He made an effort, stood up for us and engaged those bad elements directly. I will miss Officer Orange. Whoever replaces him will have very large shoes to fill.
ChickenBoyFan February 27, 2013 at 12:39 pm
The new captain is very approachable. We should reach out to him, and give him our support. OfRead More course we will miss Orange, and Allan, but Officer Ochoa is equal to the task of replacing them. He is new to us, but has a lot of knowledge about NELA.
S.E.C.G. February 27, 2013 at 12:05 pm
We will miss you Officer Allen!
nonoise March 11, 2013 at 12:28 pm
There needs to be a crackdown on illegally modified motorcycles too. A lot of officers ride themRead More too and will not cite for them. Police need to enforce the laws. Call your senior lead officer to get those illegal pipes cited.
Wesley Fallon March 11, 2013 at 01:41 am
Gotta agree with nonoise though I doubt that the Mass at that Catholic church even approaches theRead More decibel level of the illegally modified motorcycles on Silver Lake Blvd.
nonoise February 27, 2013 at 04:20 am
Hope the new captain hates noise more than Capt. Murphy did and encourages officers to write noiseRead More tickets for noise criminals.

Agreed. Make room in Guantanamo for those who terrorize immigrant communities and children.
Baird Martin February 27, 2013 at 04:08 pm
I would make the gang involvement a mandatory 100 year sentencing enhancement. Straight red card, doRead More not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars. That guy is a career loser, no amount of rehab is going to help him.
Baird Martin February 27, 2013 at 04:05 pm
I believe it was the racial based death threats as well. You might want to read the story again.

Gee. The officers mistook Brian for part of the 99 per cent? What are the chances of that? One perRead More cent? If they would just live by Shakespeare's rule it wouldn't have happened at all: "Neither a borrower nor a lender beat."
Nimby pimp February 7, 2013 at 02:44 am
Brian has a drug problem. This I know. He's also got a lot of dough. Officer Nichols is a bad copRead More who will abuse the citizenry no more. Adios MF.
