New Marijuana store coming to Cypress Park courtesy of Councilmember Ed Reyes and his employee,…Read More "no way, Jose". There is a new marijuana store coming to Cypress Park right next to Yum, Yum Donuts. Now there will be 3 within a 2 block area. Any new business is welcome as these are the only kind of businesses that Councilmember Ed Reyes and his employee "no way, Jose" can seem to bring into the area.
Have your medical marijuana and get some donuts from the side effects. Good job, "no way, Jose". Don't vote for "no way, Jose". Vote for change.

The Southwest Museum was once a proud anchor of the Museums of the Arroyo Day. In the corrupt hands…Read More of the incompetent managers of the Autry Museum, our Southwest Museum has been turned into a backroom artifact conservation warehouse where Autry disparages our collective history and arrogantly steals the Southwest's collection for its greedy self.
Even though the Autry has now moved portions of the collection to a concrete bunker it bought in Burbank, the Autry refuses to carry out the promises it made to the Southwest Museum Board, the LA Times, the Attorney General, and others to raise funds to restore the Southwest Museum and exhibit its collection there. The latest insult was to announce it would reopen an old exhibit of pottery that was at the Southwest Museum before Autry closed it. Then, cheapskates that they are at the Autry, they announced it would be "postponed" for six more months. Liars. Cheats. Conniving thieves.
It is time that the elected leaders of this City got off their ass and took the Southwest's collection away from the Autry for the public good. How many of you would stand by passively like Xavier Becerra, Kevin de Leon, Gil Cedillo, Jose Huizar, Ed Reyes have done for years while the Autry robbed you at "gun point" with their pack of lies? Our elected officials have no balls at all. Just little eunichs dancing to Jackie Autry's tune.

This was a great day! I had so much fun exploring my hood and feeling safe. It sucks that it had to…Read More take a group of 60+ people to make the ride safe. Luckily, from Glendale, I could take the iffy Verdugo sharrow to the decent Eagle Rock and Cypress bike lane to guide me to the starting point of the ride. I don't think I would've gone on the ride since I can't take Figueroa safely from my house (Colorado & Fig) to Flying Pigeon. I do wish the Fig bike lane goes in. My wife and I would be able to ride to our favorite restaurants in South Pasadena (Gus's BBQ) and Highland Park (Maximiliano). I'd also be able to ride my bike to the bike oven and learn how to work on my bicycle. Riding my bicycle around my hood is making me fall in love with it more and more. You notice so many more details in the beautiful old buildings when you're not trapped in a box.

ALL lanes are 'mixed use lanes', and especially the curb-most ones. Unfortunately many of the…Read More drivers on N. Fig. are not well-enough informed or sensitized to this fact--as exhibited by their day-to-day behavior.
N. Fig. has been part of my daily commuting route for going on 10 years now and it's in the narrower parts where sharing the lane gets tricky. When I ride in the correct and most visible/safe position--in other words in a straight line about 3' out from the parked cars--I have been screamed at, honked at, cussed at, clipped by a side mirror (talk about 'Mr. Toad's Wild Ride' there for a stretch afterwards!) and hit by cold drinks.
I think bike lanes are a necessary transition to allow more folks the FREEDOM to choose other ways to travel than by car. With more people on the roads bicycling, SURELY motor vehicle drivers in L. A. would learn to treat us like any other slow-moving traffic in a mixed lane. If you don't know the correct answer to this, ask what do drivers do now when they come up behind something like a garbage truck, creeping along?
Peace and respect to all of you out there on the road.

@KingSlav - I'm not saying York is not a route to cut through the middle of HP. Of course people…Read More will use it that way and that is why there is a road there. But just saying "it's a major through street" doesn't mean that it has to be treated like a freeway where all considerations are moot except maximizing speed and throughput for cars & trucks.
It would be nice if there was always a large, traffic free high speed road that led exactly from where I am to where I want to go, but that reality doesn't exist. It is always a matter of trade offs. My argument is that York (and other roads) serve other purposes than just being there for a person who wants to to drive through that area. I think the benefits of the change outweigh the loss. You don't have to agree with me and there isn't some way to prove that one of us is right. It's a question of what value you put on the benefits and losses of the old and new designs.
But there isn't some magic category of "major through street" that requires a certain road design.

I hope that one public meeting isn't the only opportunity to offer constructive critiques of ideas…Read More for bike commuting, travel, & recreation. Maybe we're not a vertical city, but horizontal communities like Portland and Minneapolis have found some of the best ways to integrate biking into the community. Maybe we do need to consider parallel routes like Lincoln and Yosemite. But I don't think we can blame the torture of driving York mostly on bike lanes. I see cars frequently speeding at 45 or 50 on both York and Colorado; and wonder why any sane adult would choose either for an end-to-end commute. There are too many other options for cars, too.
I'd love to see everyone signal their intent with their blinkers, and to never see anyone use their cellphone while driving, also, but maybe I'm a dreamer. I'm just guessing we can work this bike thing out in a way where everyone can be equally disappointed with the results. Or equally satisfied (it's up to us).

I spend a lot of time in NYC and ride a bike everywhere there. You can actually get to places in 30 minutes in Brooklyn. It's a vertical city. In a horizontal city like LA, I'm not going to ride an hour to Whole Foods to shop and an hour back. Especially in the summer with the heat. The distances are just too far for commuting. A nice bike ride to The York is fine but I don't think I need a separate lane and misery for the car traffic for my outings in the neighborhood.
