Great point on the 99 cent store being a Supermarket. It was an Alpha Beta, right? Or am I…Read More thinking about where Fallas Parades is. Either way, good point that if businesses such as Starbucks move in, other viable businesses such as a modern day grocery store will be more likely to invest in the area. Ralphs gave up on Cypress Park about nine or ten years ago. Maybe they would return? Anybody want Sprouts to consider Highland Park?
Regarding the barber shops, there is nothing wrong with them, and correct, there are plenty in Beverly Hills. However, Beverly Hills also has plenty of places to drink coffee. I don't know about you, but I only get my haircut every few weeks while I drink coffee several times per week. Some people drink coffee every day and drive clear over to South Pasadena or Glendale to get a decent cup. Starbucks, Coffee Bean, Swork, or somebody, please hurry up and open on Figueroa!

Considering the comments, it seems that this committee did not consider the needs of our neighbors…Read More with disabilities. And one wonders whether the removal of the bench might put the City (parks department) at odds with their obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
How about we add a garbage can and (gasp) a sand bucket for cigarettes?

I have a chronic back problem and often have difficulty walking my doggies. It's nice to be able to…Read More sit awhile. New Marijuana store coming to Cypress Park courtesy of Councilmember Ed Reyes and his employee,…Read More "no way, Jose". There is a new marijuana store coming to Cypress Park right next to Yum, Yum Donuts. Now there will be 3 within a 2 block area. Any new business is welcome as these are the only kind of businesses that Councilmember Ed Reyes and his employee "no way, Jose" can seem to bring into the area.
Have your medical marijuana and get some donuts from the side effects. Good job, "no way, Jose". Don't vote for "no way, Jose". Vote for change.

The Southwest Museum was once a proud anchor of the Museums of the Arroyo Day. In the corrupt hands…Read More of the incompetent managers of the Autry Museum, our Southwest Museum has been turned into a backroom artifact conservation warehouse where Autry disparages our collective history and arrogantly steals the Southwest's collection for its greedy self.
Even though the Autry has now moved portions of the collection to a concrete bunker it bought in Burbank, the Autry refuses to carry out the promises it made to the Southwest Museum Board, the LA Times, the Attorney General, and others to raise funds to restore the Southwest Museum and exhibit its collection there. The latest insult was to announce it would reopen an old exhibit of pottery that was at the Southwest Museum before Autry closed it. Then, cheapskates that they are at the Autry, they announced it would be "postponed" for six more months. Liars. Cheats. Conniving thieves.
It is time that the elected leaders of this City got off their ass and took the Southwest's collection away from the Autry for the public good. How many of you would stand by passively like Xavier Becerra, Kevin de Leon, Gil Cedillo, Jose Huizar, Ed Reyes have done for years while the Autry robbed you at "gun point" with their pack of lies? Our elected officials have no balls at all. Just little eunichs dancing to Jackie Autry's tune.

I would never have guessed that Ayta is supposed to be Spanish slang for ¡Ahí…Read More está! Ayta is what an infant might say, much like a baby might say Dare for There. So the name meant nothing to me. And why use 'Spanish slang' to name an Asian-inspired restaurant? By the way, Ayta is a Filipino dialect, which adds to the confusion. A link to the menu or a pdf would be nice PR too. Is the food Japanese or are there Filipino, Chinese, and fusion-inspired dishes too. I'm thinking that a local version of Asia Cuba (on Sunset in Hollywood) would be a great addition to the neighborhood. And Mt Washington and Highland Park meet up at Avenue 50 and Figueroa. Before that, Figueroa is part of Sycamore Grove, and just below Avenue 40 and you're kissing my home-town, Lincoln Heights, which when you see it, you can say, ¡Ahí está! (Hope the restaurant succeeds; good PR and yelp food reviews would help.)
