1. Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council 
Land Use Committee meeting

The Land Use Committee of the Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council is scheduled to meet from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at the 2014 Hathaway Sycamore Family Resource Center, located at 840 N. Ave. 66, 90042.

Highland Park's weekly Farmers Market is scheduled Tuesday, Jan. 21, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Avenue 57 and Marmion Way, adjacent to the Metro Gold Line. This is a special kind of market: Proceeds go to the North Figueroa Association, a nonprofit group that will use the money for the security, cleanliness and improvement of the North Fig corridor and community. Questions? 3. Food Truck Feast

Highland Park’s weekly food truck feast unfolds at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, in the parking lot in front of the former Figueroa Produce building, located at 6312 N. Figueroa St., near the York Boulevard intersection. Food trucks from across Los Angeles are expected to be there until 9 p.m. Stay tuned for details.

4. Kiwanis Club meeting

The Kiwanis Club of Highland Park is scheduled to hold its weekly board meeting today, Thursday, Jan. 23. The Kiwanis will meet as usual at Milo Terrace Baptist Church Community Room, 754 N. Avenue 50, from noon to 1:30 p.m. The meeting is free; lunch is $5 at the door. As always, attendees are encouraged to bring their ideas for a better Highland Park.

5. Friends of Mount Washington Elementary School Casino Night

The Friends of Mount Washington Elementary School is organizing its first-ever fundraising casino night on Friday, Jan. 24, at the historic Alamo Building, located on 6401 Ruby St. The event starts at 6 p.m. and ends at 10 a.m. Tickets are $35 per person or $60 a couple. In addition to blackjack, roulette, craps and other games, the casino night includes two VIP poker tournaments limited to only 20 players.
