‘WORKS Food Justice' Fundraiser Today at The York

The event will help fund food advocacy campaigns, nutrition education, pop-up organic produce markets and landscaping projects.

WORKS (Women Organizing Resources, Knowledge and Services), the Avenue 50, Highland Park-based nonprofit group that has developed award-winning affordable housing for more than 4,000 low-income families, seniors, and homeless youth, is holding a fundraiser today, Tuesday, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. to help fund its food-related advocacy campaigns, nutrition and culinary education, pop-up organic produce markets, and landscaping projects surrounding the organization’s community gardens and housing projects.

The fundraiser will be held at The York, located at 5033 York Blvd.

WORKS, which is currently building 48 one-bedroom affordable housing units on 4260 Eagle Rock Blvd., will offer a special raffle priced at $2 per ticket at the fundraiser, according to an e-mail communiqué by the organization. Prizes include airline tickets and an assortment of gifts ranging from massage oils and bottles of wine to gift certificates to local boutiques and restaurants. Tickets may be purchased before or at the event.
