Volunteer For the 2013 L.A. Bike & Ped Count

Help count how many bikers and walkers there are on Sept. 10 and Sept. 14.

The Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition and Los Angeles Walks, pedestrian advocacy group, are looking for volunteers to help conduct the biannual Los Angeles Bicycle and Pedestrian Count.

In 2011, LACBC and LAW counted more than 15,000 bicyclists and some 75,000 pedestrians in the city of L.A.—well above the 2009 count of 14,000 bicyclists and 62,000 pedestrians, according to theLos Angeles Walks website.

The 2013 Los Angeles Bicycle and Pedestrian Count is scheduled on Tuesday, Sept. 10 and Saturday, Sept. 14 at more than 100 locations across the city.

The schedule for Sept. 10 includes a count from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and then again from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Sept. 14 weekend schedule lasts from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We need hundreds of volunteers to make sure that people on bikes and people on foot are getting counted,” says an appeal on the Los Angeles Walks website. Because most locations require a single volunteer, the three shifts are expected to fill up fairly quickly, so those interested in volunteering are encouraged to sign up early so that they may be alloted the location and time of their choice.

Orientation sessions for all locations are scheduled over three days from Sept. 4 through Sept. 7. For Eagle Rock area residents, the closest and most convenient venue for the orientation is the Glassell Senior Citizen Center, located at 3750 Verdugo Rd., 90065. An orientation will be held there on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 6:30 p.m.
