Recycled Resources Seeks Volunteers, Donations as Holidays Approach

The nonprofit organization has been attempting to assist the area's homeless by forming lasting personal relationships.

--a Highland Park based organization focused on building bonds with Northeast Los Angeles' homeless population--is seeking both volunteers and donations as the holidays approach.

According to Director Rebecca Prine, the nonprofit organization relies on donations of food, clothing and other essentials, which are distributed to the local homeless during monthly outings.

Prine said that while the donations allow Recycled Resources to provide much needed meals and clothing to NELA's homeless, they also form the foundation upon which volunteers build relationships with the hundreds of people living on local streets.

"Without people donating, we wouldn't have that instrument to establish that bond," Prine said.

As the the holidays and colder weather approach, Prine said Recycled Resources is most in need of the following items:

  • pants
  • shirts
  • jackets
  • athletic shoes
  • underwear
  • socks
  • blankets
  • sleeping bags
  • toothpaste
  • toothbrush
  • deodorant
  • soap
  • razors
  • shampoo
  • feminine hygiene products

Recycled Resources also accepts cash donations, Prine said, which are used to help retrieve birth certificates, obtain ID cards and purchase bus fare.

Prine said that donations will be handed out during Recycled Resources' next volunteer outing, to be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17. Those interested in volunteering can learn more about where to meet up by emailing Prine at piratebec@aol.com.

"As the holidays approach and many of us want to reach out we ask you to consider contributing your time, talent or treasure to improve the lives of the homeless right here in Highland Park," Prine said.
