Pooch Owners, Help Hermon Dog Park Prepare For HOWL-oween

Halloween's approaching—and smelly isn't everybody's idea of scary.

If you have a dog—or several dogs—and live in or around Highland Park, you’ve probably heard of Hermon Dog Park. It’s one of Northeast L.A.’s most pleasant off-leash pooch parks, located at 5568 Via Marisol, 90042, in a woodsy area right next to the historic Arroyo Seco.

Okay, so you know about all that, perhaps even love the park, like so many dog owners from Glassell Park to Garvanza and beyond. But have you ever volunteered to clean up Hermon Dog Park? Never? Here’s your chance:

Saturday, Oct. 19, is Hermon Dog Park Clean-Up Day. And it’s not just any clean-up day—it’s specifically aimed at getting the park in ship-shape condition for HOWL-oween, according to the Friends of the Hermon Dog Park website.

All you need to do is donate an hour of your time on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the dog park. Longtime volunteers will have cleaning supplies on hand, and the idea is to get potential volunteers to rake the ground and scrub and spray benches and receptacles so that the park “smells great” for the upcoming HOWL-oween event, which includes a costume contest and a peanut butter lick-off.
