BIKE LANES & MORE CANDIDATE FOR HISTORIC NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL PRESIDENT WEIGHS IN

Friends, Neighbors, and Stakeholders:
The other day the owner of the Flying Pigeon, a bike shop on York, sent out the following mass emails to SOME of the candidates running for a seat on the HHPNC. I answered this email, and forwarded the tread to the other candidates, and to DONE representatives Jay handel, and Hector Huezo. The following is that thread;

Hello Neighborhood Council Candidates!
Figueroa For All is going to "bike the vote" this Saturday with a bike ride to the Greater Cypress Park NC, Arroyo Seco NC, and HHPNC elections. Our members are going to vote (where they hold stakeholder status) for all the candidates in favor of bike lanes on North Figueroa Street.
We've created an online survey to find candidates in support of this initiative:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/16OsHA8bPJO-lRLUtasREvhaHe1fQheYKLgihr3205I0/viewform
Figueroa For All (#fig4all) is about creating a Figueroa Corridor for all members of the community, and not one that only prioritizes car traffic. "Complete Streets" is the phrase used to capture all of the improvements that make a great street, and Figueroa For All is supportive of the complete streets movement. This survey, however, is very specific about bike lanes, and bike riders that support Figueroa For All want to know where their Neighborhood Council candidates stand.
Please get back to us as soon as possible! We're going to print flyers and are organizing our voters all this week - a voting guide will be published this morning with updates depending on your response to the survey.

Josef Bray-Ali, where did you obtain my email address? You do not have my permission or support . I do not support unsafe and restrictive bike lanes, and please remove me from your email list! What I support is an entire plan conducive to the wants and wishes of the residents, as well as the legal stakeholders of our community. As president I will seek to implement a plan that will include pedi-cab zones on Weeknights, as well as street closures on Fig. and York on alternate Weekends. As president I would enjoy taking a bike ride with you, say, from the top of Elephant Hill to Owl Peak above Oxy. I would love to point out the beautiful, underutilized in our neighborhood.  As president I will aggressively seek funding, and neighborhood as well as City, grants, etc., to put in place activities after dark, that young people can avail themselves. Night Rides would be a terrific thing to promote among the young. This could include Skaters, and other enthusiasts, of course. The object is to provide alternatives to criminal and non-productive activities for "at risk" youth. If my campaign is successful I would be most glad to work closely with you and your friends along the parameters I've outlined.Good Luck!Margarito Martinezwww.facebook.com/electmargaritomartinez

Mike,
You're not on an email list, don't worry!  We won't put you in our "I support bike lanes on Figueroa" voter guide.
One of the folks I work with in the Figueroa For All group did a bunch of homework and collected all the NC candidates emails so we could send out a survey to them. No list! I hate getting spammed as well. The whole point of the survey was to see who would be in support of bike lanes, or not, and to vote for people who were in support of bike lanes.
Cool?

No. It's not cool. You have obtained an email list with the private emails of SOME of the candidates running for NortheastNC's. These emails are to be assumed to be private, and not for distribution for private business concerns.Your questionnaire violates the privacy of all the candidates running. It can be seen as intimidating to some. I have received responses from many of the candidates who have chosen to delete your questionnaire without answering.I have chosen to answer. I am NOT bike unfriendly. And I am NOT a ONE ISSUE CANDIDATE!I represent a candidacy that will promote Highland Park FOR ALL! The 47% Foreign Born H.P. Stakeholders who will benefit from an IMMIGRANT CENTER. The 44% LAUSD School kids who have Ipods, and Tablets but no internet access, and who would benefit from FREE WI-FI. And LGBT Students, an estimated 1 IN 10, who would greatly benefit from a Q-HIGH.Is that cool with you? No one performed any "homework" to obtain these emails. You got them through unethical means. And this can be reported as violating DONE'S RULES against Dirty Campaigning.

Readrers,
Let me be clear. I am running to preside over the HHPNC because I support an NC agenda FOR ALL OF HIGHLAND PARK! Not any one individual, group, or private interests. Whether it be the owner of a former Church turned Night Club, or a Bicycle Shop.
When I am elected president I will direct the LU Committee to begin plans for a Master Design for Highland Park. To incorporate new businesses, such as the COMING SOON HOT YOGA ON NORTH FIGUEROA STREET, and other partners, such as Hathaway and Kiwanis, to implement Night Activities for At Risk Youth, prevention and intervention, etc. I also will promote a pedi-cab program for Highland Park.
I will invite people like Mr. Bray-ali, and Raffy, of Raffy's Bike Repair (on 55 and North Fig., near BoA) and people like my friend Marcos, who also sells/repairs bikes.
I invite all to LIKE my fb page, but of course the really important thing is to come out and VOTE THIS SATURDAY AT THE SENIOR CENTER ACROSS FROM ARROYO SECO LIBRARY!
FREE WI-FI  Q-HIGH   IMMIGRANT CENTER
And our very own HIGHLAND PARK CITY HALL!
Let us do great and lasting things together for Highland Park!

We’ve removed the ability to reply as we work to make improvements. Learn more here
