ASNC Recreation, Culture & The Arts Committee Meeting

1. Call to order, introductions - Martha Benedict, Chair

2. Heritage Square Entrance Gates $2500 - Jessica Maria Alicea-Covarrubias
"Matching a community beautification grant, in 2008 ASNC previously approved funding for the Victorian Fence project (Phase II), which would replace an unsightly chain-link barbed wire fence at the front entrance to Heritage Square Museum.  As the museum has engaged in more and more activity (serving more than 1,000 through a free education program, for example), it has become apparent that an entrance worthy of the museum's Victorian-era structures is necessary for our continued growth and to provide a welcome entry-point for all."

3. Lummis Day Outreach $2500 - Ann Walnum
Twenty 10'x4' banners announcing Lummis Day with the ASNC logo for mutual outreach benefit. Included for ASNC: free program ad, free community table, preferred event parking, listing on sponsor board.

4. Status of Southwest Museum/Casa de Adobe - Ann Walnum
Potential financial support for stakeholder outreach in the form of a Neighborhood Purposes Grant to Highland Park Heritage Trust, the fiscal 501c3 administrator of Friends of SWM Coalition.

5. Second Annual Hill Challenge Run at Audubon/Debs Park - Martha Benedict
Participation, outreach strategies

6. Request to Strike Mtn. Bike Feasibility Study* from Bike Plan - Martha Benedict
The City Planning Commission approved the 2010 Bicycle Plan on December 16, 2010. The final version directs the Los Angeles City Department of Recreation & Parks to spend $900,000 to study the feasibility of dedicated mountain bike trails in Debs and Griffith Park. The ASNC requests a letter to Councilmembers Huizar and Reyes, the Mayor and the Planning & Land Use Committee to delete this redundant, expensive project from the final version of the Bike Plan.
