Mt. Washington Elementary Dad Turns Doodles Into Murals

Todd Westover filled entire notebooks with floral doodles—and then the school decided to put his talents to good use.

Todd Westover, a Mount Washington resident whose two children are students at Mt. Washington Elementary School, is among a handful of artists that the school recently selected, following a contest, to paint several murals on campus.

As this video shows, Westover painted a mural on the wall outside the school's multipurpose room. The mural's floral pattern was inspired by years of doodling that Westover did while in meetings or talking over the phone. He has entire notebooks full of them, he said.

The school raised $3,450 from some key community organizations and members to fund the murals project. The main sponsor was the Arroyo Seco Neighborhood Council, which gave the school $2,000 from its community improvement funds. The Mount Washington Association and Friends of Mount Washington School gave $600 each. And community members Natalie Seaman and Christopher McGirr gave $250.
