Food Drives Abound as Thanksgiving Approaches

Thanksgiving is near, and with it come several opportunities to help fellow community members.

With Thanksgiving less than three weeks away, Highland Park and Mount Washington residents have several options for helping less fortunate members of the community.

's Associated Student Body (ASB) leadership team is teaming up with the UCLA after school leadership program with the goal of raising enough food to feed 50 families this Thanksgiving. That means they'll need to raise $1,000 pounds of food, according to ASB Advisor Natalie Esber.

"We wish to support the families in our community but we cannot do it alone, the support of our entire community can help us achieve a successful food drive," Esber said. "Donations will be greatly appreciated [and] can be dropped off in the attendance office, located at the front of the school, and in room B-1."

will also be hosting a holiday food drive, according to Director Marla Street.

Street said that La Vida Loca will be placing a donation box by the front door of their gallery and are inviting other local businesses and galleries to place donation boxes by their own doors. The boxes will then be collected on Mon. Nov. 21, placed in 20 decorated bags and delivered to two yet-to-be determined non-profits. The bags will be decorated during Saturday's
