Academia Avance to Host Vigil For Shooting Victims Monday

The vigil will also commemorate the many other victims on mass shootings in the United States this year.

Academia Avance Charter Public School will host a vigil on Monday evening commemorating the 28 victims of the Sandy Hook school shooting and the numerous other victims of mass shootings across the United States in the past year.

The vigil will be held at 6 p.m. in the courtyard of Academia Avance's 115 N. Avenue 53 campus.

"It's for those 28 unfortunate people at Sandy Hook, and for the 60 other who were killed in mass shootings this year," said Ricardo Mireles, referring to the tragedies at the Dark Knight Rises premier in Aurora, CO, the Sikh Temple in Oak Creek, WI and the workplace shooting in Minneapolis, MN.

Mireles said the vigil would also commemorate the lives of those who were killed by gun violence in Highland Park in the past year.

"We just want to take time during the Christmas season to remember that we've got to love each other," Mireles said.
