Patch Clips: Highland Park Goes to the Polls

Highland Park residents fulfill their civic duty on Tuesday.

More than any particular issue, Highland Park voters said that what drove them to the polling place on election day was a sense of civic responsibility.

Teri Lloyd, a local artist, said the most important issue on the ballot was Proposition 37, which would require stricter labeling of genetically modified foods.

Heather Newlin, a longtime teacher, was most interested in Propositions 30 and 38, which would both have major impacts on school budgets.

Edwin Duyshart was primarily concerned about the Presidential election. He was accompanied by his friend Kizito Ssendikwanawa, a Ugandan citizen who wanted to observe the American voting process.

"This is very fair, and people are given the opportunity to vote for whomever they want, without using violence," he said.
