Neighborhood Council Agenda to Address Budget, Grants, Strays

The Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council is scheduled to meet on Thursday, July 21 at 7 p.m. at the Highland Park Senior Citizens Center.

When the Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council meets on Thursday evening, they will deal with a trio of motions designed to establish budget parameters for the coming fiscal year.

Following a year of debates over the fair distribution of neighborhood purposes grants, the council on Thursday night will be consider a motion that sets a $1,500 cap for all such grants for the coming year.

The motion was proposed by member Richard Marquez, who in the past has argued that the board spent too much time discussing these grants rather than advocating on behalf of the neighborhood to city government.

The council will also consider motions by Marquez to establish two application deadlines for neighborhood purpose grants. If passed, the council would consider all applications in bulk packages in October and then again in May.

Another motion by Marquez would establish allocation percentages for all categories within the neighborhood council's budget; including
fixed council expenses, committee operations and expenses, community events and ongoing events and community improvement projects.
