Metro Seeking Community Liaisons in 710 Study

Metro trying to bridge gap between community and government.

For nearly 60-years, Metro has attempted bridge the "gap" in State Route 710 with a proposed 7.1 mile-long freeway extension project. Now, the transportation authority is working to bridge another gap--the one between itself and the fierce opponents of the proposed freeway extension. 

Backed by $40 billion in voter approved Measure R Transportation funds, Metro is moving forward in their attempts to address gridlock throughout the San Gabriel Valley, which it insists is the result of the "gap" in SR-710. 

, Metro is asking locals to sit on "community liaison committees," which would be tasked with bridging the gap between the community members and Metro staff.

According to Metro, CLCs would be responsible for sharing updates with community members, providing feedback to Metro's study team, helping shape improvements for the proposed study area, gathering community feedback and recommending outreach activities.

The 710-Freeway Fighters, one of the leading opponents of the proposed freeway extension project, have referred to it as a "antiquated and environmentally unsound 'quick fix' to the burgeoning traffic problems of the Los Angeles basin"
