Los Angeles Times Endorses Gardea For CD 1

Gardea edges Cedillo for his local knowledge and ability to continue incumbent Ed Reyes' slow but steady approach, the Times writes.

Voters in Council District 1 will have "two good choices" when they go to the voting booth on March 5 to elect a successor to Councilman Ed Reyes, the Los Angeles Times stated in its endorsement column on Wednesday.

However, while the publicaiton believes Assemblyman Gil Cedillo would do a "credible" job, if elected, the Times has given their nod to current Reyes chief of staff Jose Gardea.

[Gardea] has the vision and the know-how to continue Reyes' sometimes slogging but relentless move toward housing families who were previously packed into overcrowded and outdated buildings, bringing safety to areas once cowering in fear of gang and property crimes, and luring retail establishments to the district to build the local tax base, provide desperately needed employment and serve the residents.

The Times did not list Highland Park local Jesse Rosas among the two most viable candidates, saying that "he clearly wants the best for his district's people but cannot outline a way to deliver it."

Clearly the LA Times knows nothing about Ed Reyes and the district. LA Times also knows nothing about what kind of job Councilmember Ed Reyes has done. He has done nothing that they mention. What a piece of ? Now, they want another 12 years of "do nothing, Ed Reyes? Clearly the LA Times does not live in the district. And, it was pretty mean of the LA Times to bad mouth Jesse Rosas.

I didn't read the LA Times article; but, I definitely agree with the LA Times final assessment of Jesse Rosas. This race is about Jose Gardea and Gil Cedillo! My recommendation - THINK carefully if you elect Cedillo. "Beware of the Wolf in Sheep's Clothing."

For what it's worth, let's remember that the Los Angeles Times endorsed Rudy "I got this" Martinez in his run for a Council seat. Apart from Patt Morrison, it there another Times writer who resides in these parts?

Which is the worst of the 2 evils, "no way, Jose" or "do nothing, no bill Gil. "No way, Jose" has worked for do nothing Councilmember Ed Reyes for 12 years. He has done nothing to improve our district. We do not want another 12 years of Ed Reyes!!?? And, the other alternitive is Gil just looking for another job. The only 2 candidates running that are not government employees just looking for another job are Jesse Rosas and William Morrison.

Susan, your claims regarding Councilmember Reyes are clouded by your unhappiness over one hyper-local issue -- Something about some urban noises in your immediate vicinity. I have seen virtually no other person join you in this crusade. You have constantly nagged on blogs like this about Reyes and Gardea but I have seen little evidence of the merits of your claim which is essentially a private property owner dispute. You also accuse Gil Cedillo of being "One Bill Gil" regarding his efforts to legalize aliens who fire our economy. I think it is only fair that from now on, persons responding to your endless non-substantive posts christen them with a name too: "The Susan Squawk Syndrome." It is a disease inflicted on others when a person publicly protests a questionable issue for so long that listeners/readers injure their finger clicking past thousands of Susan diatribes.

YES! Way,Jose. This is fantastic news. We will be sooooo cluckin' lucky to have him as our councilman. I'm crowing my comb off for this guy. Since it's close to election day, let's seal our fate by l checking in to the phone bank/campaign office on Figueroa@ Devan Glass,( with the lions on the roof, next door to the Dharma Temple) (lol) Only in Highland Park, would there be directions to a location described like this.

Yep. Nothing changes. No streets repaired and trash on our streets. Some like it that way. Same old same old. You get what you ask for.

Gardea will get my vote. His team repaired street lights on my street and is getting the street cleaned up. His action gets my vote.

After 12 years in office, they are cleaning up so they do not look bad at the last moment. They waited until they are out of office to finally take some action. They did nothing for 12 years. Now, after the election it will go back to the same way it was before. Some like it that way. I have heard it a million times. Do not change our neighborhood. Many do not want to improve the area. They want to keep it run down, trash on the streets, pot holes everywhere, shootings all the time. Keep voting for the same people in city hall. They will keep things the same. No improvements. You get what you vote for.

Did Jose write the letter for Ed Reyes on city letterhead "encouraging" the church to take me to court? A clear abuse of his power. Did "no way, Jose" write the letter?
El Cid February 24, 2013 at 06:59 AM
Nonoise you may have a legitimate gripe with Ed Reyes and Jose Gardea. Yet, your church issue is OLD! Can you put the church matter to rest? FYI - You may want to check your spelling, grammar, syntax, and punctuation marks too! Per your post - Ed and Jose have poor English and spelling!

ONE TIME, I WAS GOING OUTSIDE TO MIND MY OWN BUSINESS BY THE TRASH AND THERE WERE 5 FERAL CATS SITTING IN A GROUP. ONE WAS IN A TREE GIVING ME A DIRTY LOOK. I BARKED I MEAN YELLED AT THEM TO LEAVE ME ALONE AND STOP RUINING MY NEIGHBORHOOD. NOT IN MY BACK YARD I CRIED. BUT THEN THEY PRETENDED NOT TO UNDERSTAND MY LANGUAGE. MR. REYES, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT ALL THOSE 5 CATS????? IF YOU DO NOT RESPOND, YOU WILL NOT GET MY VOTE. ALSO, IF ANYONE WANTS TO GIVE ME THEIR VOTE, I CAN PAY YOU IN DENTA-BONES AND JACK IN THE BOX WRAPPERS. APPARENTLY 'MY KIND' AREN'T ALLOWED TO VOTE IN THIS COUNTRY.

I guess you think the Catholic church child molestations were o.k. too. It shows some approve of the catholic church bad behaviour.
