LAUSD Board Approves Budget, Saves Afterschool Programs

The over 6 billion dollar budget for the next fiscal year saves afterschool progarms and much early childcare programs.

A $6.03 billion budget for the 2012-2013 fiscal year was approved Thursday by the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of
Education.

The vote was 6-1.

The budget closed a $390 million deficit the district faced entering the
fiscal year, which begins Sunday, according to Tom Waldman, the district's

director of media and communications.

The board's 6-1 vote, with South Bay representative Richard Vladovic dissenting, capped an 11th-hour scramble to salvage the Beyond the Bell after-school program. It operates from 3-6 p.m. weekdays at every elementary and middle school in the district.

About $4 million will come from money the district had set aside to put a parcel tax on the 2013 ballot--although district officials are still considering that plan--and the balance from an unexpected surplus in preschool revenue in the state budget that Gov. Jerry Brown signed on Wednesday.

Superintendent John Deasy credited teachers and other unionized
employees for choosing to cut their salaries by working fewer days to allow the
district to reduce spending significantly.

Church members want peace and quiet in their own homes but the freedom to force religion on others.Read More And, they want the freedom to force noise into other people's homes. Anyone from Divine Saviour want some noise forced into their home like some banging metal pans?

Jesse is fine. He is campaining for Cedilllo. Neither have ran away. Both have appreciated myRead More help in campaining for Cedillo. His eyeliner must have faded away. All that matters is that he will do more than "no way, Jose" has done in 12 years with "do nothing, Ed Reyes." My problem is not with bells, it is with the noise (amplified sound) from Divine Saviour Catholic Church. You need to get your facts straight. Noise is a mental issue. Divine Saviour Catholic Church is the one with a mental issue. They are hypocrites that they want to force noise on others then they themselves want peace and quiet. Get the facts.
