A health fair with information on the Affordable Care Act and free health services will take place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Hosted by Assemblymember Jimmy Gomez (D-51), the health fair will take place at Griffith Middle School. More than 80 health and community service providers will gather to offer free vision screenings, dental screenings, mental health services, health diet and nutrition resources, medical checkups, domestic violence prevention tips, free massages, free dental kits, children’s play section, face painting and more.  In addition, the first 500 families to RSVP have been entered in a chance to win one of three free bicycles. Families can still RSVP by calling (213) 483-5151.

“Growing up without health care almost bankrupted my family,” Gomez said in a news statement. “Providing access to free health services and preparing individuals for the open enrollment of the Affordable Care Act has been a top priority of mine. We need to give residents, especially in communities like East L.A. where there is a high uninsured rate, the tools and information they need to successfully take ownership of their health care needs.”

The Affordable Care Act takes effect on Jan. 1, 2014 and open enrollment begins on Oct. 1, 2013.

Gomez represents the 51st Assembly District, which includes Highland Park, Eagle Rock, Echo Park, Elysian Park and Silver Lake.
