Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council Meets Thursday

Transportation, land use, funding items and city council elections will be up for discussion.

The Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council (HHPNC) will meet on Thursday, Dec. 6  from 7-9 p.m. at the Highland Park Adult Senior Citizen Center.

Among the items to be addressed on the agenda are several funding requests, including: $325 for holiday outreach supplies and $200 for a bulletin board to advertise HHPNC meetings and events.

The board will discuss a motion by President Monica Alcaraz regarding potentially participating in future collaborations by forming a neighborhood council coalition. The motion calls for the appointment of one or more individuals who can commit the time to attend possible monthly meetings.

710 Freeway:

The board will hear a presentation regarding the latest issues regarding the 710 freeway extension and about upcoming meetings. There will be a request for a vote opposing the tunnel, and drafting of official letter stating HHPNC opposition to the project consistent with Los Angeles City Council's official position.

Candidates Forum:

The board will vote to officially endorse and promote the Council District 1 candidate forum as an HHPNC event. The forum will be held on January 15 at Benjamin Franklin High School.

Van De Kamps:

The board will discuss a motion by member Tom Williams support for the development and implementation of a full college facility at the Los Angeles Community College's Van De Kamp's campus on Fletcher Drive in Glassell Park.

Highland Park Transit Village:

The board will consider a motion to limit January's meeting agenda to only a few items to allow ample time the Highland Park Transit Village. There are currently three plans for for three sites under consideration.
