HHPNC Seeks 2 At-Large Director Candidates

The neighborhood council is looking to fill a pair of recently vacated seats.

The Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council is seeking candidates for two recently vacated seats on the council’s 19-member board—and interested candidates have until July 31 to apply, the HHPNC announced at its meeting Thursday as well as an in e-mail blast to community members.

Both seats, for the position of At-Large Director, are voluntary, unpaid positions. They are open to all stakeholders who successfully declare a stake in the neighborhood by virtue of living, working or owning property in the neighborhood.

“Ideal candidates are those that have the drive and desire to represent the neighborhood to City Hall and to make the community a better place,” an e-mail from HHPNC President Monica Alcaraz said.

The HHPNC board is elected by community stakeholders or appointed by the board. The process for selecting the two candidates began Friday and all interested applicants are required to complete an online application at either of the two following sites: http://tinyurl.com/HHPNC-At-Large or highlandparknc.com.

All applicants are expected to attend the board meeting on Thursday, August, where board members will vote to fill the vacant seats. Applicants may be asked to answer general questions from board members.

Newly selected board members will be officially seated at the following board meeting on August 15, giving enough time for a Department of Neighborhood Empowerment-approved Independent Elections Administrator to verify their stakeholder status in Highland Park.

For all that, the HHPNC may, by majority vote, decide not to fill one or both of the vacant seats on the date of the selection.
