VIDEO: Greuel Turns Attention to General Election

Los Angeles City Controller and mayoral candidate Wendy Greuel addressed supporters Tuesday night after primary election results showed she is moving on to a runoff in May.

Candidate Wendy Greuel rallied supporters Tuesday night for the next push in her quest to become the mayor of Los Angeles after winning enough votes to proceed to the general election.

Although she finished second to her opponent, Councilman Eric Garcetti, Greuel enthused that the vote "sure looks good" in speaking to a near-capacity crowd at the Los Angeles Brewing Company in downtown L.A.

The campaign chose the location to host its election night party because of the brewery’s central location in Los Angeles — "plus hotels charge too much," said Kyle Hall, Greuel’s press assistant.

Greuel has campaigned on fiscal responsibility since announcing her bid for mayor in February 2011. She claims to have uncovered millions of dollars in wasteful spending at city hall while controller, the position she currently holds.

"The test of our progress will not only be measured by how much we save, but how well we can use those savings to improve our neighborhood services, such as reducing emergency response times for every part of Los Angeles," Greuel told supporters.

Greuel will face Garcetti in a runoff race on May 21.

It is long overdue for the people of LA to rise up and demand an honest government. Demand that elected officials carry out their duties and responsibilities as a servant of the people. If we as Angelenos rise up as a cohesive force and demand our government and its officials to perform their duties honestly and efficiently, otherwise we must throw them out of office.

Grandma just received this endorsement for Wendy from President William Jefferson Clinton: I'm proud to support Wendy Greuel for Mayor of Los Angeles. Throughout her career, whether in the public or private sector, Wendy has been a smart, dedicated, and creative problem-solver. She knows how to make government work for ordinary people, and she's been doing it for decades, not only when times are good, but especially during periods of crisis. I saw this strength of Wendy's first-hand in 1994, when she was a valued member of my administration's Department of Housing and Urban Development. When the Northridge Earthquake struck -- causing so much loss of life and destruction -- Wendy sprang into action. She helped deliver over a billion dollars in federal emergency aid to Los Angeles residents and worked around the clock to assist families who lost their homes. In her many years of public service in Los Angeles, first in Mayor Bradley's office, through her tenure on the City Council, and now as City Controller, Wendy has personified good, honest, and effective government, improving the lives of countless Angelenos while saving millions of their tax dollars. And she's not done yet. Los Angeles is a great city with equally great challenges, so it's vital that Angelenos elect a proven, creative problem solver to lead them. That's Wendy Greuel. I urge you to join me in supporting her for Mayor of Los Angeles. Sincerely, Bill Clinton

YJ you're a real mensch,, however Grandma just received an endorsement for Wendy Greuel from Emily's List. Here are some excerpts: As President of EMILY's List, I can't tell you how excited our organization is to support Wendy Greuel as she runs for Mayor of Los Angeles. Wendy represents everything our organization stands for: not only is Wendy the most qualified candidate with a proven track record of fighting for the rights of all Angelenos, she also stands to make history as the first woman mayor of Los Angeles. California has one of the best records in the nation when it comes to breaking glass ceilings for women: it was the first state with two women Senators, and it gave our nation the first woman Speaker of the House. Let's continue that streak by electing a proven, woman leader to helm the state's largest city. In 2013, Los Angeles faces the possibility of having no women in city leadership -- we cannot let that happen. Wendy has stood up for women and families time and time again, and her leadership will move Los Angeles forward. Thank you for supporting Wendy, Stephanie Schriock President EMILY's List Grandma advises; Check it out www.emilyslist.org
