Former L.A. Prosecutor Named to Federal Appeals Bench

John B. Owens, 42, a Los Angeles-based litigation partner at Munger, Tolles & Olson, was a federal prosecutor for 11 years.

A former federal prosecutor in Los Angeles and San Diego is the latest judge on the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

John B. Owens was confirmed to the seat Monday by the Senate on a 56-43 vote. The seat had been empty since Judge Stephen S. Trott took senior status in 2004.

President Barack Obama nominated Owens on Aug. 1 last year, but the Senate failed to act before the end of the session. The president renominated him Jan. 6.
