Find Out What to do When the Lights go Out

The Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council hosts a DWP presentation tonight in response to recent power outages in the neighborhood.

The Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council is scheduled to meet Thursday from 7 p.m. to around 9 p.m. at the Highland Park Adult Senior Citizen Center on 6152 N. Figueroa St. Here are the highlights of the council’s agenda:

• The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power will deliver a presentation followed by a Q&A session for local stakeholders in response to a string of recent power outages and service interruptions. The focus of the presentation will be on what LADWP consumers should do when power goes out and how the utility responds to service requests in the area.

• Discussion and possible action to approve and submit a letter of support for the so-called Exclusive Commercial and Multifamily Solid Waste Franchise Hauling System backed by the Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy. (In 2012, the Los Angeles City Council voted to grant exclusive franchises to commercial trash hauling companies within 11 proposed geographical regions of the city, including in neighborhoods that have large apartment complexes. A different company would be given a franchise to each of the 11 areas.)
