III.            Old Business:

 1.     Neighborhood Watch Signs – Providing 4 signs to Montecito Hgts  

IV.             New Business:

1.     Disaster Survival Supplies  - Available at 10-20% discount for ASNC residents from S.O.S. Survival Products.  ASNC’s Northeast LA Disaster Survival Task Force will provide monthly pick-up service.

2.     Crimemapping.com – Discussion of useful new online crime data available from LAPD.

3.     iWatchLA.org – new LAPD online reporting system for suspicious activity

4.     New Community Project Funding Request– Discussion of the following motion:

1.     $1950, California ShakeOut Disaster Survival Training & Drill Exercise – Motion to allocate up to $1950 in community project funds (Category:  Public Safety) to support survival planning efforts and a large ShakeOut drill exercise in October 2011 at Fresco’s Market (“Hermon ShakeOut: The Play”).  This is considered the most comprehensive, community-based earthquake drill to be conducted in LA and possibly the state.  Funds will be used to puchase promotion banners, refreshments for CERT/CART classes,  graduation patches, and drill/survival equipment.  [Request Originator: Mark Legassie, Northeast LA Disaster Survival Task Force]

5.     “Hermon ShakeOut:  The Play” –  Discussion on how to increase community involvement in the California ShakeOut exercise.  ASNC is sponsoring the first ever community-wide earthquake drill and evacuation exercise for the entire community.  CERT and local residents plays a key role.  After the drill a festival will be held in the Fresco market parking lot and is advertised at www.LAsurvival.org

6.     CERT Training – Announcement of upcoming CERT classes·      Focus is on business owners, school teachers, and residents in Hermon (·      Sep-Oct days (Wednesdays 2:30-4:30PM), Fresco’s Market Meeting Room, 5914 Monterey·      Sep-Oct evenings (Arroyo Seco Library)

7.     CART Training – Review of plans to implement a Community Animal Response Team (CART) training program as part of Hermon’s community emergency team.  Class scheduled for Oct 1st in Hermon (7:00am-5:30pm) and will be taught by Noah’s Wish.  Pre-registration is required (see www.LAsurvival.org).  This CART would be the very first in LA, and LAFD CERT will be evaluating this training with the possibility of expanding it citywide.

8.     ASNC Win of EMD’s  Emergency Preparedness Contract – Important updates from the Northeast LA Disaster Survival Task Force on EMD’s initiative to copy ASNC’s plan and make a standard template for all communities to use in developing their own  neighborhood emergency response plan.

9.     Neighborhood Watch Signs – Discussion on where to install 8 NW signs for Mt. Washington.  Once approvals are received from the LAPD, BSL, and DOT , the signs will be distributed.

** (from ASNC Bylaws): ART. VIII (COMMITTEES) All committees shall be composed of both board and non-board members.  The following Standing Committee[s] shall be established.  6) Ad Hoc Committees may be established by the Board.  Subject to Board approval, the President shall appoint chairs of ad hoc committees, except for ad hoc committees dealing with grievances.

The purpose of the ASNC [is to]: 1) Provide a forum for discussion and review of ASNC issues and projects; 2) Engage stakeholders in deliberation and collaboration on matters affecting the community; 3) Promote participation in City governance and decision making processes, and to promote greater awareness and utilization of city services available to (ASNC) stakeholders; 4) Work with other neighborhood councils, communities and organizations on issues of common interest; 5) Advocate ASNC issues to government and private agencies, where there is widespread community agreement; 6) Inform and educate community stakeholders and residents of forthcoming projects, events, and resources available.
