IV.       New Business:

1.     New Community Project Funding Requests – Discussion of the following motions:

1.     $500, Peace in the Northeast March,  May 14 – Motion to allocate up to $500 in community project funds (Category:  Public Safety) to purchase food and supplies for the Peace in the Northeast March on Sat, Mar 14th.  Request involves using ASNC purchasing card at Smart and Final.  [Request Originator: Dr. Stanley Moore, Event Organizer]

2.     $500, ASNC CERT Medical Drill, June 2011 – Motion to allocate up to $500 in community project funds to purchase supplies for the ASNC CERT Medical Drill in June, including water, refreshments, and needed medical supplies (gauze pads, dressings, latex gloves, etc) [Request Originator: Hans Riser, Drill Incident Commander & B2 CERT Coordinator]

3.     $500, 2-way FRS radios – Motion to allocate up to $500 in community project funds to purchase  of 2-way FRS radios for ASNC stakeholders to be used for daily, informal neighborhood watch communications as well as the primary form of communication in the immediately neighborhood after a disaster.   The radios will also be used by residents to practice weekly CERT comm drill check-ins, as well as during  the Shakeout Drill in October to test the new Neighborhood EP template being developed by ASNC and EMD).  Radios will be signed out to interested residents who agree to volunteer and attend NW and CERT activities.  Volunteers receiving the radios will be required  to complete and sign an application for tracking purposes.   Finally, residents will have to return them to ASNC if they move or become inactive in  localNeighborhood Watch and CERT.

2.     CERT Training – Announcement of upcoming Spanish CERT class from May 5th – June 16th  (9:00am).  Class has been organized by B2 CERT Coordinator and the HHPNC.  To be held at Ramona Hall, 4580 N Figueroa St, LA CA 90042

3.     ASNC/CERT Medical Drill – Review of plans for ASNC/CERT Medical drill scheduled for June 2011 (Hans Riser, Batt 2 CERT Coordinator)

4.     ASNC Win of EMD’s  Emergency Preparedness Contract – Announcement of the committee members comprising the ASNC “dream team” , which includes reps from bordering neighborhood councils.  Brainstorming of ideas on how to get started now that ASNC has been announced as the winner of a city-wide competition by EMD.  This contract will make ASNC the “Birthplace of Neighborhood Emergency Preparedness”, with a goal to create in 6 months a personalized plan for ASNC communities, as well as generate a first of its kind, easy-to-use  template for any community to use in developing their own  neighborhood emergency response plan.

** (from ASNC Bylaws): ART. VIII (COMMITTEES) All committees shall be composed of both board and non-board members. The following Standing Committee[s] shall be established.  6) Ad Hoc Committees may be established by the Board.  Subject to Board approval, the President shall appoint chairs of ad hoc committees, except for ad hoc committees dealing with grievances.

 

The purpose of the ASNC [is to]: 1) Provide a forum for discussion and review of ASNC issues and projects; 2) Engage stakeholders in deliberation and collaboration on matters affecting the community; 3) Promote participation in City governance and decision making processes, and to promote greater awareness and utilization of city services available to (ASNC) stakeholders; 4) Work with other neighborhood councils, communities and organizations on issues of common interest; 5) Advocate ASNC issues to government and private agencies, where there is widespread community agreement; 6) Inform and educate community stakeholders and residents of forthcoming projects, events, and resources available.
