Election Results Confirmed; Cedillo, Gardea to Run Off
Former Assemblyman fell .7 of a percentage point away from sealing the victory.
The Los Angeles City Clerk on Tuesday confirmed what Eastside voters had expected since polls closed in the race for Council District 1 earlier this month; they'll need to return to the ballot box to decide the race between candidates José Gardea and Gil Cedillo.
Election law requires that a runoff election be held if no candidate earns more than 50-percent of the vote in a civic election.
According to the certified election results released on Tuesday, Cedillo earned 8,390 votes to Gardea's 7,392, a 49-percent to 43-percent edge. Trailing in distant third-place was Highland Park businessman Jesse Rosas, 1,288 votes, or 7-percent.
