DPW Hopes to Complete Sewer Work by August 31

The project is now running two months behind schedule.

The Los Angeles Department of Public Works has set a completion date of August 31 for an ongoing sewer rehabilitation project at the intersection of York Boulevard and North Figueroa Street.

After a lengthy lay-off during the winter months--during which time construction equipment lay dormant in the meridian of North Figueroa Street--the sewer rehabilitation project resumed on April 16, with an expected end date of early July.

According to DPW spokesperson Olga Morales, the project has been delayed because of several massive boulders crews encountered while boring below North Figueroa Street.

"It was the boulders that caused the delays," Morales said.

According to Morales, DPW now hopes to have their crews and equipment out of the area by the end of the month.

Through the The $2.24 million project, DPW crews are constructing a new relief sewer from Arroyo Glen Street to Meridian Street. The relief sewer will connect to the Avenue 45/Arroyo Drive Relief Sewer. The project consists of installing 0.70 miles of 15 to 21-inch sewer lines. The sewer will relieve capacity for the 8 and 12-inch sewer along Figueroa Street between Marmion Way and Meridian Street.

Since construction resumed in April, residents have complained about the traffic delays it has caused. Residents of Mount Angelus have also complained about having limited access to their homes, due to the closure of Mount Angelus Drive at York Boulevard during construction.
