Affordable Care Act Information Sessions

Oct. 19, Noon-2 p.m.
Burbank Middle School
6460 N Figueroa St.

Congressman Xavier Becerra invites you to an Affordable Care Act Information Session. As you get ready for 2014, you will have to prepare for the changes that might be coming your way as a part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). Coverage expansion in California will take place through Covered California (California's health insurance marketplace). Enrollment for Covered California begins Octobers 1, 2013.

Who does it affect? Those currently uninsured, individuals who do not have adequate coverage, or those who have unaffordable individual coverage. (If you have insurance through your employer or you are satisfied with your current health insurance and it has all required essential health benefits, there are no changes for you.)

What are the changes? Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, most Americans will be required to have health insurance starting January 2014.

How do I learn more? Come to one of those information sessions for a presentation and one-on-one counseling. To attend a particular information session or to ensure that you get to speak to a Covered California Certified Educator, RSVP by calling (213) 481-1425

‘The River Runs Through it’ Workshop

Saturday, Oct. 12 and Oct. 26
Northeast Los Angeles

Conducted by retired LAUSD teacher, Carmela Gomes, this place-based education workshop is an active experience. To receive one point credit for the workshop, teachers are required to use the information they acquire to create lessons for their classrooms that reflect Charles Lummis’ view of the Southwest. One teacher, from 92nd Street School noted that the workshop encourages the value of community wherever that might be by changing the perception of the concept of “community.” The workshop is listed in the LAUSD Learning Zone. Registration closes Oct. 3.
