The LAPD is Looking For Cadets to Mould the Next Generation of Officers
Hurry—Dec. 20 is the deadline to apply for 144 hours of training on Saturdays for 18 weeks.
Their day starts early—around 7:30 a.m.—and in the course of eight hours, they undergo rigorous physical training and take courses in leadership and teamwork.
The fact that they’re minors suggests how well prepared they’re likely to be as adults—whether or not they progress from being cadets of the Los Angeles Police Department to full-fledged law enforcement officers.
Every year, on Saturdays, the LAPD invites young men and women to a 144-hour community youth program for 18 consecutive weeks. The recruits learn basic law enforcement skills that, according to the LAPD Cadets website, they “will be able to use throughout their time as cadets as well as in their everyday lives.”

The next Cadet Academy starts Jan. 25, 2014—and the LAPD is eager to attract the best potential talent to build the next generation of police officers in Los Angeles. The deadline to apply is Dec. 20.
