Police Pursuing Possibly Armed Man Near Cleland Avenue
LAPD Northeast Division Sgt. Lisa Phillips said that the man was cornered by police in a home near Jessica Drive and Cleland Avenue.
Update: The suspect being sought for allegedly stealing a car is now in custody, Officer L. Thompson of LAPD's Northeast Division said. He was not armed.
Previously: The blades of police helicopters could be heard over Mount Washington on Saturday afternoon as police pursued a possibly armed man who was suspected of stealing a car and escaping into an under-construction home near corner of Jessica Drive and Cleland Avenue.
As of 1:45 p.m the pursuit was still ongoing and residents were asked to stay clear of the area as K-9 Officer searched the house.

According to LAPD Northeast Division Sergeant Lisa Phillips, the suspect had allegedly stolen a car from a dealership in Monterey Park. Phillips said that the vehicle was equipped with On-Star technology, and that the engine automatically shut off in Highland Park.
Phillips said that a Northeast Division officer heard the radio transmission reporting the stolen car, and began a pursuit of the suspect.

The suspect was holding his waist band while running, Phillips said, which indicated that he may have been concealing a hand gun.
"We're searching now and we believe we have him contained, but there's always that X-factor," Phillips said.
