Northeast LAPD Searching For Shooting Suspect

Shooting occurred on Thursday afternoon at Echo Street and Avenue 50.

Northeast LAPD's Gang Enforcement Unit is searching for an armed suspect who fired on two people on Thursday at around 9 a.m.*, according to Sergeant Sanford Rosenberg.

Rosenberg said officers on routine patrol in Highland Park on Thursday heard shots fired in the area of Echo Street and Avenue 50. When officers stopped in the area, they heard two more shots being fired and then saw a man who appeared to be holding a handgun in the area.

Nobody was injured in the shooting.

Rosenberg said officers attempted to track down the suspect by setting up a perimeter from to Echo Street to the Arroyo Seco Parkway, but were unable to make an arrest.

The perimter was lifted around 1 p.m., Rosenberg said.

"The Northeast Gang Unit is going to take control of the investigation now," Rosenberg said. "We think it's gang related, but the victims are being less than cooperative."

Rosenberg asked that any community members with more information to call the gang unit at 1 (323) 344-5754.

"As always, we rely on the community," Rosenberg said.
