Man Shot on Avenue 56

An assailant drives up in a car, asks the man where he's from, and shoots him in the foot.

A Highland Park resident who was standing outside his house on Avenue 56 early Tuesday was shot in the foot by a man who drove up in a car and fired at him after asking where he was from.

The victim was injured in his toes and was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, Sgt. Douglas Bowler, the watch commander on duty at the Los Angeles Police Department Northeast Division told Patch.

The incident occurred near the crossing of Avenue 56 and Eaton Street sometime between 5 a.m. and 5:15 p.m., Bowler said, adding that according to the victim, there was one assailant in the car that drove up to him. The victim also told police that he ran into his neighbor's house to call 911.

The identity and whereabouts of the assailant are unknown so far, and the incident is under investigation. Bowler said.
